Dereham & District Flower Club

We aim to stimulate and encourage interest in flower arranging. We have floral demonstrations and design workshops, lessons and garden visits. It’s a thriving club with around 40-50 members of all ages and we always encourage new members.

It is with great sadness we announce the death of Reginald William Lewes.Veteran of DDay Landings.
Dereham has just lost one of the last surviving soldiers of WW11.
Reginald William Lewes born 25th August 1923 died on 26th April 2024 at Quebec Hall Dereham.Age 100

Reginald joined in April 1942 and became a soldier in the 70th Young Soldiers Battalion the Essex Regiment.
By 1944 he was attached to SHAEF with Eisenhower's team. He was with the American army being on standby for embarkation to France.
Being Signals meant as September approached Eisenhower's headquarters were preparing for France.
Before embarking for France, he had married Nora . While waiting for embarkation in noticed two ATS girls. One turned out to be Nora, she also had joined up.

He landed with Eisenhower in Normandy and was still with SHAEF in 1945 when the surrender was signed with Admiral Donitz and General Jodl on May 7th 1945 at Reims.

He went on to serve in the Middle East 1945-1946

Reginald Lewis Funeral Service will be held on
Monday 13/5/2024 15-00hrs at Breckland Crematorium Scoulton Watton NR9 4NR
We would encourage all who knew Reginald and any serving or retired Armed Forces Personnel to please turn out and show your respects to the life of this amazing Gentleman.
There will be a celebration of Reginald’s Life following the service at The Railway Tavern Dereham to which all are welcome.

DEREHAM DAY CELEBRATES D-DAY

With 2024 being the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings we are delighted to announce that Colonel Terry Byrnes MBE, will be starting the proceedings on our outdoor LIVE music stage with a short exposition about this significant event in our history.

Col Byrnes MBE, will also be accompanied by a selection of military jeeps belonging to the 'Winterton Warriors'.

His address will be followed by a performance by Miss Kitty Collins "Vintage Tribute Singer" will be performing all your favourite songs from the 1940s and 1950s.

We hope you will join us in this special celebration.
